It’s generaly agreed that Pomeranians are difficult to train. They tend to be dominant and don’t like someone telling them what to do. They have a stubborn streak and they need firm handling. They can also be aggressive and barking can be a problem. York Dog School training will correct this and help the owner to control their Pom.

POMERANIAN OBEDIENCE TRAINING

Obedience is vital for your Pomeranian. At York Dog School we will train your dog to a high level in obedience. We also believe that this should involve the owner at every stage and so our training is one to one with you and your dog. It’s important that your dog obeys your commands and we work with you until you are confident in controlling your dog.

Owners with obedient pets get more satisfaction and have a stronger bond with their pet. As Poms are highly energetic dogs owner training is vital so that the owner can enjoy having such an energetic pet.

A well-trained Pom is safer to have around family, children, friends, and other dogs.

POMERANIAN PUPPY TRAINING

Puppy

Training your new puppy should be started as soon as possible from 8 weeks. You’ll be amazed just how quickly they learn and at a very early age and it’s just fun for them and they love it!

York Dog Training School train your puppy on a 1-2-1 visit to your home in Yorkshire rather than in classes as we believe this is much more effective.

  • Toilet Training - we will show you the easiest way to toilet train your puppy
  • Crate Training - we will show you how to crate train your puppy
  • Biting - we will show you how to stop "mouthing" or biting
  • Destructive Behaviour - we will show you how to stop destructive behaviour

STOPPING BAD BEHAVIOUR BY YOUR POMERANIAN

Some trainers believe that giving a dog treats is the best way to train but in our opinion relying on treats exclusively just does not work particularly with a Pom. Your dog may learn how behave but only does it at because there's a treat at the end of it and many times treats just stop working. Essentially you are bribing the dog to behave properly. Our Pomeranian dog training solves problems with bad behaviour as this is our speciality. Many of the problems are very common and we work with your dog and just as importantly, with you at your home or on a walk, to solve any problems you may have.

  • Stop pulling on the lead
  • Stop lunging at other dogs
  • Stop barking at dogs & people
  • Stop jumping up at people
  • Stop aggression
  • Stop running away and not returning
  • Stop constant barking

Excellent session. I am an experienced dog owner but still found this of value! Ruth is lovely. Very calm and authoritative with training and listens carefully to any concerns around the puppy! Great service and highly recommend ☺️

Ruth was absolutely fantastic! We decided to look into getting some training sessions for Ollie, our 7month old Golden Irish puppy to work on jumping up, walking on the lead and recall.

We were a bit apprehensive as we were worried we would be made to feel like we had been training him wrong however it was the complete opposite. Ruth was lovely, calm and very professional. She really put us at ease and went through each training step in a way that was easy to follow and was very patient when we were practicing. She uses a correction and reward technique that really works!

The session was very personal and we all (including Ollie) really enjoyed it. We have been practicing all that Ruth taught us and it is working really well.

Thank you Ruth, love Paula, James and Ollie x

Amazing. Ruth is so lovely and so knowledgeable. Within a few minutes of our puppy training session our puppy was responding to her behaviour training. The session was so informative and she worked with the whole family. We were left feeling confident and happy that we knew how to proceed and were given so much useful information both during our session and helpful videos to watch after. Our puppy clearly felt really at ease with Ruth straight away and we can’t thank her enough.
We will definitely be recommending York Dog School to all of our dog owning friends.

We had a 1:1 puppy/obedience session this morning with Ruth and it was more than we could have hoped for. We worked on so many skills including heel and avoiding distractions. It really built our confidence and we can see it working already with our pup! I would thoroughly recommend the dog school, it was effective, personalised and they follow up after the initial consultation so that you feel fully supported. Give it a go, you and your dog will be glad you did.

Ruth was very calm and understanding from the start and was quietly confident in her approach. Our 8 month border collie was having real problems with lunging at traffic. However, with the right tools, she quickly showed us how his behaviour could be instantly improved. He was a different dog by the end of the session and we were very impressed and super happy how more relaxed our dog was. She sent helpful additional information which was greatly appreciated.
I would highly recommend Ruth if you are having any problems with your dog.
    A trusted and capable trainer.

Our dog is a re-home and while quite well behaved didn't walk to heel and did not come when called. In just one session, he grasped both concepts. Ruth has been fantastic, very friendly and very skilled. In that session she helped us develop our own commands and everything we needed to be able to carry on, on our own.

Ruth arrived at our house yesterday and immediately put us at ease that she knew how to help us with our rescue dog, she is calm and patient and really clear in teaching us how to correct our digs behaviour. No fuss no shock treatment just responsive and responsible dog training. On the walk she showed us how to correct bad behaviour and our dogs barking and lunging towards other dogs has completely stopped! He seems more relaxed at home too which is brilliant. We can’t thank you enough!! Leah and Rob
